- Is this tread finished with polyurethane?
- This tread is prefinished but we use our UV cured Aluminum Oxide top coat, Diamond Coat II. Read more on our finish here:

- How many coats of finish are applied to the treads? Is the finish applied to both sides of the tread nose?
- These Brazilian Cherry treads have 4 coats of UV finish. Some of our species (Ipe, Santos, Australian Cypress) require an additional isolator coat because of the oil content of the wood. The top surface of the tread is roll coated on our UV line and the front and underside of the nose is sprayed, so yes, all sides of the nosing is finished for a complete visual if viewed from the bottom of the staircase.

- I don't see anywhere on this site, a tread that is wedge shaped. I have a stair case that curves to the left. Will I have to purchase two treads and rip them down, glue them together and then install them?
- We have over sized stair treads that you can cut to fit the wedge shaped step.

You can also call 866-429-0979 and a team member can help you order the right sized panel (over sized tread) that you need! The widest (front to back) prefinished tread we can make is 23". Widest unfinished tread we can make is 36". - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

- I plan on using a pneumatic nail gun to drive 16 gauge finish nails in the Brazilian Cherry treads. Must I pre drill the holes since the wood is very hard?
- We do recommend pre-drilling the holes in harder species of wood. You can see more about installing retro treads with our written instructions that you can find at the following link:

- How much variation in color are there in your Brazilian Cherry retro treads? I have the sample but it is very uniform in color and not at all like the variation in the flooring.
Thanks
- The samples we send are a good representation of the general wood color but some species have a greater range than others and can be hard to show in a 6" piece. Brazilian Cherry has a moderate variation in color and grain with predominate red tones. Brazilian Cherry is also very photosensitive - meaning that when you first receive the treads, they will be light tan in color and within a few days, they will start to turn a darker red. This process will continue for several weeks until they reach their full color depth. The 4th product picture picture at the top of this page is a good representation of the color range to expect with Brazilian Cherry stair treads.

- I am considering replacing my carpeted stairs with your Brazillian Cheery stair treads. It occurs to me that the first step will be ¾” higher than the rest of the steps. The difference in height between the first and all other steps may be a safety issue or may just feel unnatural. Do you have a thinner tread for the first step or do you recommend replacing the first step with a new, thinner step before applying the tread?
- The 3/4" Stair Tread on the first step will not be an issue, since all the treads are being increased by the same amount. (3/4" increase because retro treads are being installed on each step) You will not be able to feel or see a difference. The very top step will be a little lower, unless you install the Landing Tread. The landing tread is 3/4" thick also, and has a groove in the back for carpet or hardwood to be set in the groove. This is a transitioning piece from the staircase to the floor it leads to.
