Double return stair treads are measured by the throat length - the distance between the two mitered returns. Sometimes, measuring the riser length of each stair will give you the same dimension. If you need a measurement that is not listed, please contact us with your required dimensions

Double Return stair treads are a full inch thick on the bullnose and 3/4" thick along the tread body and are 11 1/4" deep. The Double Return style means that this stair tread has two mitered returns along each edge. Sometimes this style of stair tread can be referred to as a double side open stair tread or double mitered return stair tread. A quick and easy test is to determine if both ends of the stairs are visible and need a finished edge. Do or will your balusters directly intersect your new stair tread on both sides? If the answer is "yes", these double return stair treads are for you. If only the right end is exposed, you may want to consider a "right mitered return". If only the left end is exposed, you may want to consider a "left mitered return". And if both ends are against a wall or kneewall, you need a "closed" or "box" style stair tread. Double return stair treads will typically have balusters that directly intersect the tread on both sides as well.
