The skirtboard (sometimes called a stringer or simply skirt) is a flat board that is installed along the side of a staircase. Skirtboards can be used to hide the edge of exposed risers or installed on the inside wall of a stair. Our unfinished Hickory skirtboards are 11 1/2" wide x 3/4" thick. Our skirtboards are edge glued like our stair treads with color and grain matched Hickory hardwood. This edge gluing process helps our Hickory skirtboard resist warping and cupping. We can generally make skirtboards in any width, length, and thickness, if you would like a to explore different dimensions, please contact us.   1. Q:With the riser being 3/4 in thick will that cause the nose of the new tread to stick out past the existing stringer?
    A:Depending on your particular stairs and how close the existing treads are to the top of the skirtboard it might not be a problem and if it is you would need to extend the skirtboard to make it higher up.
