Builder Grade Retro Tread - Red Oak

Please order a sample pack for color selection before ordering builder grade products as all sales are final on these products - because builder grade products are a less expensive alternative to select grade products, no returns, refunds, or exchanges are accepted on any builder grade item. We encourage you to order a few extra pieces to allow for selection during install.

Red Oak Builder Grade Retro Stair Tread Closed - 3/4" thick x 11.5 in wide - Use unfinished Red Oak retro treads to apply your own stain and polyurethane on site after some minor prep-work or order finished retro treads in one of our standard stain colors (be sure to order your sample pack first to select a color).

Unlike 1" thick traditional treads which are used when building a new staircase, retro treads are 3/4" thick and are designed to reface a stair rather than replace the entire stair. See the installation video for more detailed information. Using retro treads and retro risers will allow you to simply install over the top of your existing staircase. Solid retro stair treads are 3/4" thick with a full 1" bullnose and 11 1/2" deep. The "closed" style means that this tread has no mitered returns (see types of staircases). Sometimes this is also referred to as a box tread. Our solid stair treads are guaranteed to never separate between the wood staves offering a lifetime of usage and can be sanded and refinished if ever necessary.

To install retro treads on your staircase simply cut away the existing bullnose from each stair leaving a flush surface to overlay the tread. Our retro treads have a 1" bullnose along the front edge which will hang over the existing step by 1/4". Retro risers fit behind the retro tread's bullnose to cover the existing riser and complete you installation. Sheen Level

We are now offering two sheen levels on our UV-finished stair treads:

• Standard UV (Semi-gloss)
• Low-Sheen (Matte / Flat)

Choose the sheen level that best blends with your decor and design preferences. The standard sheen level blends with many popular wood flooring choices. The low sheen option is popular for coordinating with many ceramic or LVP flooring options.

Please note: There are some minor color differences between products finished with the two different sheens. The standard sheen shows a more vibrant and true stain color while the flattening agents in the low sheen add a white or "milky" hue to the finished product.
