Order a wood sample pack » to ensure the color on your device accurately represents the color of your new stair treads. Seeing the stain colors in your home's lighting allows you to select the best stain color to coordinate with the design and color pallet in your home. A finished sample of any of our wood species can also be ordered individually.

When each sample order ships, we'll email a $20 coupon code that can be applied to your next purchase at Stair-Treads.com over $300.

The red oak sample pack contains 2 pieces of each stain color to show the expected color range of each stain. For species other than red oak, the sample pack contains one piece, roughly 8" x 11-1/2" sample of the wood species.

Unfinished products are considered commodities and will require some degree of additional minor prep-work before they can be considered complete, or "finished". Some degree of sanding / puttying is to be expected before finishing. Alternatively, consider ordering prefinished products.

White Oak Unfinished Stair Treads - Standard Box Tread - 1" x 11 1/2" x 36"

Our stain grade White Oak stair treads are made from 100% solid FAS and Select Grade White Oak (no thin veneers or finger-joints). Use unfinished treads to apply your own stain and polyurethane on site - some degree of sanding and minor prep-work should be expected.

All our box treads (for a "closed-type" staircase) have a full round over bullnose along the front edge and are edge-glued for stability throughout the tread's lifetime. If you need a White Oak tread with a return, see left return White Oak treads or right return White Oak treads. Unfinished White Oak stair treads require finishing to be done on site; we also offer prefinished White Oak treads with our UV clear-coat applied. Traditional White Oak stair treads are 1" thick x 11.5" wide x 36" long. These treads are sometimes identified by their part number - 8070 White Oak Plain Stair Tread.

We manufacture these treads to order (right here in South Carolina - 100% Made in the USA) and complete most orders within a week, but this tread length is a hot mover and is typically in stock. If you have a deadline - please contact us and we'll prioritize your order.

Product Questions and Answers
  1. Q:What is the width of the traditional treads (white oak unfinished)? Also, I was planning to router my skirts to accept the treads and raisers...what radius is the nose on the tread?
A:The traditional treads are 11 1/4" wide with a full round-over on the nose. Being a full inch thick, this puts the radius at 1/2" on the nose.
  2. Q:Are riser boards available along with the tread?
A:We do have risers available! The link below will take you to the matching risers. White Oak Unfinished Traditional Risers: http://www.stair-treads.com/traditional-treads-and-risers/traditional-3-4-riser.html?color=2&wood_species=45
  3. Q:Do you carry 10 1/2 " unfinished white oak treads or just the 11 1/2"?
A:The standard tread depth is 11 1/2 it can easily be cut to your exact size requirements once you receive the product. http://www.stair-treads.com/resources/stair-tread-anatomy.html
  4. Q:I need to replace 12 stairs that float on an iron frame, therefore the top and bottom are both visible. Is the white oak stair tread (11 1/2 x 36 x 1) $29.34 finished on both sides? Also, do you have this in 2 in height? Thank you
A:The White Oak 1 x 11 1/2 x 36 for $29.34 is an unfinished tread. We also do make the thick 2 in treads. If you are looking for finished product, we can finish both sides if requested. Please contact us at 1-866-429-0979 for a custom quote.

  6. Q:DO you provide any other profiles for the treads other than the bullnose? (I'm nooling for a modern, square, eased edge profile). Thank you.
A:Yes- We can make square nosed treads (1/8" roundover) in the standard 1" profile but these customizations are made by quote only, so send us your information in a quick note and one of team members can assist you in finalizing the order. Use the contact form to get in touch with a member of our team: http://www.stair-treads.com/contacts/
  7. Q:Can step risers be used for door jam material boards? I have to replace door jamb boards as the bottom 1/3 has lost it hardness due to decay on one side. I plan to remove and match the whole cove area. It is formerly of cedar or redwood. My dimensions are 1"x 9" x 79"/ so the 1x10x96 is closest to it in height with inside cove width of 321/2 plus 2"= 34" in width. I am in a very old home with a rustic English appearance.
A:All our products can only be used for interior applications and we can't recommend them for any uses other than their intended purpose (stair treads, risers, etc), but if the dimensions and profile fit your needs, you may use them how you wish.
