Prefinished 3/4" x 5 1/4" landing tread is used at the top of the staircase where your 3/4" flooring meets the first step and on the edge of any landing in the staircase. The 1" full round-over bullnose simulates a stair tread on the final step or landing and provides a consistent visual along the entire length of the staircase.
Landing tread is also referred to by the following common names:
- Stairnose

Landing tread is designed to cap the edge of intermediate landings where 3/4" flooring is installed as well as along the top edge of the flooring in the upper level of your home. Sometimes, this last "step" may appear to be a solid stair tread but in actuality is an extension of the flooring. If you are intending on leaving carpet installed upstairs, you can install a landing tread and tuck the carpet to the end of that tread to maintain a consistent visual appearance and step height along your entire staircase.
Landing tread can also be used along each edge of an exposed balcony with the balusters typically attached to the landing tread. In either case, the purpose of landing tread is to terminate hardwood flooring with a pleasing bullnosed profile when viewed from the front. Both our prefinished and unfinished landing tread is 5 1/4" wide from the tip of the bullnose to the tail of the profile and has a 4" recess cut from the bottom that actually rests on the sub-floor. In a standard installation, this landing tread will overhang 1 1/4", the same as both our retro and solid stair treads. Another popular option is to install a length of landing tread along the front edge of a pie shaped stair and fill the space behind it with 3/4" flooring. Most often, this is a much less expensive option than opting for a solid oversized stair tread to fill the entire step surface.
This solid landing tread is a solid piece of moulding milled from solid stock and will connect with most 3/4" tongue and groove flooring. As with our other products, your landing tread will be manufactured and finished at the same time as your stair treads for the best possible match between the two.
