When it comes to LVP stair treads, they are not known for their sturdiness. Vinyl treads are very thin compared to wood. Which is a big “no-no” for a high traffic area such as your stairs. This makes them very prone to tearing, cracking, and even snapping! We have seen and heard it all when it comes to LVP fails- from noses snapping off to adhesion issues. All scenarios have ended the same, with us replacing these treads for solid hardwood. Considering repairing LVP treads can be very difficult, your only real option when they ultimately fail is replacing them all together- if you can. Most have issues finding a replacement Vinyl tread due to LVP manufacturers constantly changing and discontinuing colors to keep up with the current trends. Unfortunately, once a color is discontinued you are out of luck when it comes to finding replacements.
